Bridging the Gaps in Lichen Planus Treatment: Emerging Therapies and Clinical Realities

In the second part of his conversation with Dermatology Times, Adam Friedman, MD, FAAD, professor and chair of dermatology at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, discusses what dermatologists are using to treat lichen planus and where the treatment landscape still falls short.

The new data come from a recent cross-sectional survey published in Dermatology and Therapy1-2 that explored how more than 400 dermatology clinicians manage lichen planus, a chronic inflammatory condition with no FDA-approved therapies. Part 1 of the interview, which focused on screening practices and disparities in lichen planus management, highlighted a “wild west” mentality in care delivery due to lack of clinical guidelines or consistent evidence-based protocols.
