Despite an expanded array of systemic therapies for moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis, little data exist to help guide treatment selection for a heterogenous patient population.
In this ReCAP, Dr Adam Friedman of The George Washington University discusses the benefits of considering patient-specific factors including comorbidities, affected sites, and skin tone in the choice of systemic therapies.
He discusses the benefits of newer biologics, including the interleukin (IL)-17 and IL-23 inhibitors, for treating patients with comorbid cardiovascular risk factors, and the superiority of ixekizumab in treating plaque psoriasis in patients with type 2 diabetes. He considers phase 3 study data on the effect of specific biologics on psoriasis-affected body sites, and data from the VISIBLE study demonstrating efficacy of guselkumab across skin tones.
